Prof. Danjela Kuščer and Izabela Čurković from the Electronic Ceramics Department of the Jožef Stefan Institute were awarded a silver prize for their innovation “Advanced materials and technologies for sustainable printed electronics on packaging glass” by the Zasavje Regional Chamber of Commerce, Slovenia, on 28 May 2025.

The research team, which consists in addition to the Institute’s collaborators of Ana Varlec, Liza Marija Strnad and Natalija Virant from Steklarna Hrastnik, Tilen Sever from RC eNeM and Ivan Jerman and Ana Drinčić from the National Institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana, has developed a zinc oxide-indium oxide solution that is suitable for deposition by screen printing on curved industrial glass using an industrial machine. By optimising the pre-treatment of the glass surface, adjusting the chemical composition of the solution and fine-tuning the printing and firing steps, the researchers have produced optically transparent and electrically conductive thin films on packaging glass in a regular industrial production line. The layers are suitable for the production of electrodes for transparent electronics.

Congratulations!
